The Golden Age of Bullshit

Well worth the watch is this 2014 Boff Hoffman talk about the enormous waste of money and resources that has been funnelled into online marketing, social media marketing and digital brand activities.
In a time when everyone and no one is right, we have never seen such a monumental shift in the diversity, range and disruption occurring in the marketing and advertising field. In the argument for advertising Hoffman goes into detail and examples the case of Pepsi full stop at one point they did a massive social media push to pick up light on Facebook. In the same year they lost the position in the US beverage market to become the third most popular beverage. One wonders if a Corporation, business, or small business operator becomes too focused on social media and attention at the folly of them own business success. The case for social media is supported as modern day proponents like Gary Vaynerchuk who has become an enigma in the social media marketing field. His online following is verging on a million which is nothing short of astounding and many are trying to emulate his success. His followers certainly are.
Time will only tell as the world's traditional and new age marketers fight it out for the big brand attention and the massive budgets attached.
